Yes in a perfect world I'd have a Tormach 1100 but that would be an overkill for how much I'll use it. Nope, not even going to convert it to ballscrews, at least not yet.

If saving money is the goal, find an old CNC machine and get it running, or do the "conversion" on it. Decent iron will almost always be cheaper if it is an old CNC machine in the first place.

Making a CNC Milling machine requires a lot of metal working. Most people will use a manual milling machine to do the metal work. I was lucky to have access to a CNC machining center so that is how I made my ballscrew mounts. Using the machining center was faster and I believe gave me better parts.
